It was defined in February 2009. Category 6A is defined for frequencies up to 500 MHz – twice as many as cat. 6. Category 6A operates with improved specifications, in particular in the foreign interrogation area, compared to cat. 6 UTP (unscreened strand), which showed high foreign noise at high frequencies. The main issue is the efficiency difference between the ISO/IEC component specifications and the EIA/TIA for the NEXT transmission parameter. At 500 MHz, the ISO/IEC 6A connector works 3 dB better than the cat connector. 6A according to the EIA/TIA specification. 3 dB equals 50% noise reduction of converging signal power; see section 3dB. Shielded Cable Screening is used to improve its performance in high electromagnetic interference environments (EMI). Such screening reduces the harmful impact of EMI on the cable. The shielding usually runs from one end of the cable to the other using the continuity vein running through the cable along twisted pair of wires. The electrical connector of the screen with the base element at each end is made using a socket.
