On the one hand, they constitute a reference to the pictured and symbolized, that is, its presence in the image, on the other hand a proper relationship to the reader, possible only if the latter considers himself to be an element of this relationship, and his own onic, cognitive, own here and now, as co-creating it. The symbol-image creates the cosmos not by its existence, but by being manifested in the sensual world and mediating in it, as does the image, which according to Gadamer does not exist in itself (it does not exist then properly), but it does, in its essence, constitute a being only incorporated with its world.
